A Bookish Day: The Disreputable History of Liars

It's the first bookish event of the year - well, for me, that is! XD I was absent for the past couple of events and I missed a whole lot of incredible authors, but I'm trying to change that this year and I sure as hell wasn't going to miss E. Lockhart! She wrote two of the most intelligently-written books I've ever read (and I read them one after the other, which was double awesome) so I really looked forward to meeting her, even though I had to rush from the office for a quick shower and then leave again after twenty-four hours of no sleep. Plenty of time for sleep when I'm dead lol.

During the Q&A, Emily really gave much thought to everything she said, as proven by the pause after every question we asked her. I'll be recording everything next time so you guys won't have to rely on my failing memory, but here's what I asked her:
How did you come up with the unforgettable twist in We Were Liars?
She said that We Were Liars actually began as a book about real estate, and that the two editors that she first shared the idea with were both... dismayed, as one would be when told of a book about real estate. Anyway, her idea stayed on the drawing board for quite a while, until one afternoon as she waited for her daughter to come out of school, everything clicked and she finally had everything figured out under fifteen minutes. Thus our heartbreak was born, friends.

Anyway, that's about the best my mind can remember right now, so thank heavens for my blogger friends who are undoubtedly better at this recap thing:

I asked Emily to stamp these awesome quotes onto my hands, and then I asked for a photo, of course!

And my signed books~

Notice that extra copy of We Were Liars? I'm not one for duplicates especially if they're the exact same edition, so it's not so hard to guess what's coming next, right? Yep, here's a giveaway for y'all here in the Philippines!

  1. I would love to meet Lockhart! I read The Disreputable History so long ago and loved it. Then when I read We Were Liars last summer I was blown away. It looks like it was a lot of fun!

  4. I'm so glad I stumbled on your blog. I want to have a signed copy of the book so bad because I couldn't go to the book signing event and I think E. Lockhart is amazing.

Anyway, I hope you write more reviews. Because, to be honest, sometimes I choose the next book based on the recommendations of the blogs I follow.
