Title: Avalon (Avalon #1)
Author: Mindee Arnett
Author: Mindee Arnett
Release Date: January 21st 2014
Publisher: Balzer & Bray
Age Group: Young Adult
A ragtag group of teenage mercenaries who crew the spaceship Avalon stumble upon a conspiracy that could threaten the entire galaxy in this fascinating and fast-paced sci-fi adventure from author Mindee Arnett.
Of the various star systems that make up the Confederation, most lie thousands of light-years from First Earth-and out here, no one is free. The agencies that govern the Confederation are as corrupt as the crime bosses who patrol it, and power is held by anyone with enough greed and ruthlessness to claim it. That power is derived from one thing: metatech, the devices that allow people to travel great distances faster than the speed of light.
First of all, holy gorgeous cover! I don't particularly get what that thing above the guy is, but it's beautiful in a creepy, it-looks-like-a-space-junk-monster sort of way. Anyway, doesn't this book sound awesome? Spaceships and space travel and space mobs and space thieves - yep, sign me up!Jeth Seagrave and his crew of teenage mercenaries have survived in this world by stealing unsecured metatech, and they're damn good at it. Jeth doesn't care about the politics or the law; all he cares about is earning enough money to buy back his parents' ship, Avalon, from his crime-boss employer and getting himself and his sister, Lizzie, the heck out of Dodge. But when Jeth finds himself in possession of information that both the crime bosses and the government are willing to kill for, he is going to have to ask himself how far he'll go to get the freedom he's wanted for so long.
Title: Timestorm (Tempest #3)
Author: Julie Cross
Release Date: January 28th 2014
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Age Group: Young Adult
The battle between the Tempest division and Eyewall comes to a shocking conclusion in this final installment of the Tempest trilogy, where the need for survival stretches the boundaries of history, both past and future, and the world Jackson once knew is a place forever marked by the detrimental effects of time travel.
As Jackson recovers from his brush with death, he’s surrounded not only by the people he loves most—his dad, Courtney, and Holly—he’s also amongst a few of the original time travelers. As he learns more about their life and how this world began, it becomes apparent that they need to put a stop to Thomas and Doctor Ludwig’s experimenting at Eyewall Headquarters. What starts out as an escape plan becomes a war between time and humanity, between freewill and peace. It’s the battle Jackson was born to fight and he’s not about to back down. Not for anything. Not for anyone.Ugh, this book. I hate series endings (probably why I haven't read a whole lot of them), but after the crazy events in Vortex? Timestorm is one I'm not going to avoid.
I have Avalon ARC - I can't wait to read that book Great picks.
