This week's question is:

Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

My answer:

Hmm, I don't think I ever have. I read what piques my interest, so of course I don't think I'd hate them.

In most cases, I try not to expect anything from a book because then it could not meet those expectations and who would end up disappointed? Me. That's exactly what happened when I read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I thought it was so otherworldly awesome because of all the love it's getting, but... It wasn't bad; it just didn't end up being as good as I thought it would be.

Activity! Hopefully warm weather for most of us is here soon… so tell us about your favorite outdoor reading spot. Or take a picture.

My answer:

I have four (yes, four. Four... Tobias? Sorry, must be the coffee.) favorite reading spots: my bedroom, the terrace of our house in the province, the train, and my school's corridors. I don't have pictures of the last three, and, well, I'd take a picture of my bedroom but I'll spare you guys the view of my personal mess :)) 

Oh, wait! I have another favorite spot, and I do have a picture of it. Or something like it, anyway. *grins*

Who is your favorite villain from a book?

My answer:

I'm going to cheat here and name two. First is Warner from Shatter Me because he's hot and evil, and second is Julian from The Forbidden Game because he's hot and evil. Lol just kidding XD I love Warner because, uh, yeah, he's evil, but I just know underneath all that cruelty is a very complicated character, not to mention a tormenting past. As for Julian, he abducts Jenny with her group of friends and uses them to try to keep her in his world with him, but I know he just loves her so much, though in a very obsessive way. Yep, I "know" my beloved villains very much :))

This week's question is:

What is the last book that made you cry? Tell us about the scene...

My answer:

So far, only three books have succeeded in tugging at my tear glands, and the latest of those is Once Upon A Second Chance by Marian Vere. The book was actually a very light adult romance, but I have a weakness for sweet proposals and whatnot (so yeah, when I watched The Vow, I bawled even before the all the drama started!). If you're wondering, the other two are Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick (Detective Basso's gift! Patch's love letter!) - which also got the most tears out of me - and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer... what? That scene where Bella and Edward were saying goodbye and entrusting Renesmee to Jacob was really sad!

Activity! Who do you want to be? If you could be any character from a book. What do you think that character looks like and what do you have in common?

My answer:

You have no idea how tempted I am to say I'd love to be Tris Prior from Divergent, Nora Grey from Hush, Hush, Juliette from Shatter Me, or Katy from Obsidian (because I want their boyfriends!) but nah, I'd rather have a peaceful, normal life XD So my answer would be Lily from Dash & Lily's Book of Dares! Why? First, I love Dash; second, I want to live in New York; and lastly, I want to go on a date at the Strand! What she looks like and what we have in common are the same: we both wear glasses and beat-up Chucks :)) I can't and won't ever sport her majorette boots, though.

Wow, this is even harder than choosing my favorite book! I can't choose only one, so here are my top five:


Patch Cipriano from Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
   Oh, the innuendos and witty comebacks. Do I even have to explain? Before, I would've said Steven Strait would be the perfect Patch, then I google-d pics of him and my brain just said "no".

 
Tobias "Four" Eaton from Divergent by Veronica Roth
   Who doesn't want a gun-wielding, knife-throwing badass with just four fears but is actually a tormented romantic? Swoon. Anyway, Max Irons was the perfect Four... until I started watching Teen Wolf and saw this guy *points to Colton Haynes on the right* in action. I was so thrilled when he followed Veronica Roth on Twitter and all, and I really hope he gets the role of Four in the movie.

   First ever book guy to break my heart. Evil author is evil. And no pic because he's too perfect to be human.

Warner from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
   Yes, yes, he's a psycho and all but whatever, Juliette can keep Adam. I didn't have anyone in mind for Warner before this post, but I thought it through and came up with Evan Peters! If Warner becomes kind enough to smile like that, I'll just melt.

Last but definitely not the least, Alex Sheathes from Delirium by Lauren Oliver
   Alex, be mine? Let Julian keep Lena... Although I'm pretty sure Alex doesn't have a killer British accent, for me Benjamin Stone looks pretty darn like our favorite Invalid. (Stupid photo that I want to attach here won't show. Go google if you don't know him!)

Books are turned into movies all the time! Turn it around. What movie would make a great book?

My answer:

For me, it would be one of my favorites, 10 Things I Hate About You! I absolutely loved its plot and characters - KATRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK - and I'm sure the story would be more fleshed out in the book version. Also, I'd love it if the cover models would be the actors themselves (movie stars in the front cover, TV stars in the back; I loved both)! I know it was some kind of a retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, but I haven't gotten to check that out yet, sadly.

This week's question is: 

Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

My answer:

It's stupid to think the plot bunny well is bottomless, so I generally don't mind. For example: Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush, and Lauren Kate's Fallen. They're both about fallen angels, and even the settings are quite similar (foggy, dark, creepy places), but I loved them both because the writers had different takes on the angels - like, in Hush, Hush, the fallen angels didn't have wings, but in Fallen, they did. And that's just the first of many differences. It's actually quite entertaining to read books with similar ideas because I get to imagine more about it.

Now as for published fanfic... I only know of one, and of course it's E.L. James' Fifty Shades trilogy, which I haven't read yet. I'd planned to get it but then I read about how the editing was hideous, and add that to its erotica genre and they've lost a potential reader. So my rules for fanfics are the same as with other books: give me a good plot (even if it's unoriginal) and good writing, and I'll surely pick it up.

What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

 

My answer:

First will have to be bad editing. This is one of the reasons why I tend to stay away from self-published books, but - though it rarely happens - it's even more annoying when I see it in traditionally-published ones. Also, terrible covers. I know, "Don't judge a book by its cover", but I can't help it! I love me some pretty visuals. Lastly, I hate slow pacing. As Kurt Vonnegut said, "Start as close to the end as possible".

What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

My answer:

When I read George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones, at first, I had a problem with the multiple POVs. I hadn't read anything like that before, so it took me a while to adjust. Also, there's the abundance of metaphors in Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me. Some of them didn't make sense, but I still loved it. Overall, I think any device would work as long as it's executed well.

When you step out of your usual genre, what do you like to read? Best books in that genre?

My answer:

I usually read YA - I don't really base on genre, but I looked at my book stacks and noticed that I have lot of YA books - and the only non-YA books I have, aside from a few classics, are Adult Fantasy & Mystery/Thrillers. My favorite from the first is George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and from the second, it's Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (which I'm planning to re-read soon!), particularly A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four, and The Hound of the Baskervilles.

What book do you think would make a great Halloween movie? Please explain in graphic detail of goriness.

Answer:

I've only read one scary book so far, and that's The Diviners by Libba Bray (which I just reviewed!). It has the ghost of a serial killer, cannibalism, cults, violent deaths, people with supernatural powers, and the Museum of Creepy Crawlies to top it all off! Now I'm really hoping it'll be turned into a movie...
